West Ham’s ‘Ruled Out’ Star’s Profile Does Not Fit
According to an ex-West Ham United employee, the club has decided not to pursue a defender who does not fit their desired profile.
The Hammers have recently completed the signing of Germany striker Niclas Fullkrug and are likely to announce the acquisition of midfielder Guido Rodriguez on Tuesday.
Signing a centre-back is also on the agenda, and the Hammers have been connected with former Borussia Dortmund player Mats Hummels.
Hummels, 35, left Dortmund earlier this summer and is now a free agent.
However, West Ham have ‘ruled out’ signing the experienced German defender.
The club wants more pace and agility in the back and does not believe Hummels fits the type of the defender they are searching for.
Hummels has never played club football outside of Germany, having only played for Bayern Munich and Dortmund.
He is expected to get offers from a number of clubs this summer, but a transfer to West Ham appears out of the question.
