Wolves are presently in Marbella for pre-season training, and one of Gary O’Neil’s players is standing out for one reason.

Wolves are starting their pre-season schedule for 2024/25 season, led by Gary O’Neil.

The squad is presently in Spain, exercising in hot temperatures in preparation for next season, with the club’s new acquisitions settling in with their new teammates.

Assistant head coach Tim Jenkins noticed one of O’Neil’s summer additions during training in Marbella for reasons other than their quality.

Wolves deputy head coach Tim Jenkins applauds Tommy Doyle’s efforts with young players.

Despite joining Wolves on loan from Manchester City last season, Tommy Doyle is considered one of O’Neil’s 2024/25 signings.

The midfielder made his permanent move from City at the end of his loan period and has piqued the interest of many throughout pre-season training.

In an interview with Express & Star, O’Neil’s assistant praised Doyle’s approach to developing young players.

Several promising young players have joined the first team in Marbella, with Jenkins citing Doyle’s help with fellow center midfielder Luke Rawlings.

“The other day, we practiced some midfield routines, and Tommy Doyle worked well with Luke. He previously held that role before entering the academy.

“He not only encouraged him, but also gave him information to try to help him and spoke with him after the session.”

“Sometimes the players around them will be their best coaches and Tommy is a really good example.”

Doyle, who came up through Manchester City’s academy, understands what it takes to graduate from a Premier League system, since he is now a valuable senior player at Wolves.

Doyle’s guidance will be important for Wolves’ emerging talents.

Making it out of a Premier League academy is a difficult path, and less experienced players can benefit from a relevant perspective on the work at hand.

The former Manchester City academy standout had to be patient to earn his chance to shine, making only seven senior appearances for Pep Guardiola’s team during his tenure.

After seeing how far hard work can carry a player like Doyle, Wolves’ young players are well-positioned to comprehend what is possible.

Speaking in Marbella, assistant head coach Jenkins emphasized the importance of academy players getting the opportunity to train with the first team.

“We’re trying to offer these guys the best experience possible and it’s then down to them to push on.”

It will be intriguing to see how O’Neil integrates the young players into the group next season, and Jenkins’ evaluation of Doyle’s leadership is encouraging.
