Nottingham Forest
Interesting What the papers say: Nottingham Forest v Wolves
The Guardian
Although Nuno Espírito Santo is typically known for prioritising safety above all else and prefers to start from a strong base, Nottingham Forest is starting to play more attacking football as evidenced by their record of having the most shots in the Premier League through the first few games of the season. His analysts will analyse how they have only managed to score once in their last 16 attempts, but Wolves will be happy to have picked up their first point of the year after Jean-Ricner Bellegarde equalised Chris Wood’s opening goal.
Forest has had 53 shots in their unbeaten first three games; Nuno will anticipate a higher conversion rate as his new charges settle in given the attacking talent at his disposal following another hectic summer transfer window.
Despite the addition of ten new players, Morgan Gibbs-White continues to be their most inventive player. Regretfully, the recent England call-up did not make the winning squad against his previous employers, but he was still influential. When they worked together at Wolves, his manager gave him his Premier League debut, so he is thrilled for him. Nuno remarked, “It was something he worked really hard for; it was a dream for him.” We’re happy for him and think he deserves it. Enjoying his football, he says. However, he is a very modest boy who claims he can keep getting better.
The Telegraph
Nuno Espirito Santo believes that Morgan Gibbs-White, who recently signed a contract worth £25 million, will have an impact with England after realising his “dream” of playing for the Three Lions.
The attacking midfielder, who plays best as a No 10, is getting ready to join Lee Carsley’s senior team for the Nations League qualifiers. He has represented England’s junior teams from the under-16 to the under-21 levels.
Gibbs-White’s move from Wolves to Nottingham Forest two years ago has paid off. He was a vital member of Carsley’s under-21 squad that won the European Championship last year and a World Cup winner with the under-17s in 2017.
Nuno maintains that his best is still to come. He is the first Forest player to be named in an England squad since Stuart Pearce was called up in 1997.
The Independent
Wolverhampton Wanderers drew 1-1 with Nottingham Forest to earn their first Premier League point of the season thanks to a spectacular strike from Jean-Ricner Bellegarde.
After going completely unmarked in the penalty area, New Zealand striker Chris Wood headed the home team into a 10th-minute lead from a corner during a wild opening to the match.
But Bellegarde answered right away, hammering home a huge blow two minutes later.
Forest maintained its perfect record this season despite neither team being able to really generate clear-cut opportunities to win all three points.
The Mail
When every detail of Jadon Sancho’s transfer to Chelsea and Raheem Sterling’s move to Arsenal blaze across social media, a custodian going from Crystal Palace to Wolves hardly merits a second look.
However, keepers prevent you from losing games won by forwards, and Wolves owe their first Premier League point to Sam Johnstone.
Johnstone, who cost £10 million to sign with Wolves, made incredible saves in both halves against Chris Wood and Morgan Gibbs-White, who was honouring his first senior England call-up. After ten minutes, Wood gave Nottingham Forest the lead. The centre forward for the Forest may have had a hat-trick, though Jean-Ricner Bellegarde’s stunning goal soon negated his effort.
After Chelsea hammered them 6-2 at home, the visitors were content to settle for a point by the end and will be happy to escape defeat. Even though Forest hasn’t lost yet, they may have expected to get more than five points from their opening games against Wolves, Southampton, and Bournemouth.
The Sun
Nottingham Forest continued their unbeaten start while Wolves fought for their first point of the year.
Both sets of supporters eventually went home happy, even though they were furiously upset about a few contentious penalty claims—one for each team.
Referee Simon Hooper, at least in this instance, was consistent in declaring Chris Wood and Jorgen Strand Larsen to be innocent men even though it was obvious that the ball had struck both of their arms.
Nevertheless, neither of these Midlands rivals had suffered a major setback at the end of this thrilling ninety minutes.
Wolves also celebrated their first goal from outside the box in an incredible 47 games with a rare long-range strike!
