What the PR manager for Dominik Livakovic “officially” stated regarding recent Celtic rumours originating in Turkey

The big Celtic rumour yesterday was that the club had made an offer for Fenerbahce goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic.

Livakovic has been on Celtic’s radar for nearly a year, as the club’s plan to replace Joe Hart appeared to be in the works for some time, but he chose to join Fenerbache instead.

While reports from Turkey suggested that Celtic had made a bid of €9 million (£7.6 million), it appears that this rumour is far from accurate.

In fact, the claims are so incorrect that Livakovic’s PR manager, Stipo Dubravac, has had to issue a statement to correct them.

Celtic’s Livakovic bid is ‘completely false’.

Livakovic had just suffered Euro 2024 heartbreak with Croatia after a last-minute Italy goal eliminated them from the competition when the rumours surfaced, but Dubravac dismissed them quickly.

Dubravac said [Sportske Novosti], “Completely false. Feel free to write that we have officially denied this untruth.

“We don’t know where they got it from, there was no talk about it at all.”

Contracted to Fenerbache until 2028, the Croatian international would command a high transfer fee, especially given his performances in Germany.

Last season, Livakovic kept 21 clean sheets in 47 Super Lig appearances, helping his club finish only three points behind eventual league champions Galatasaray.

With Champions League qualifiers ahead, I’d imagine Jose Mourinho would want to keep his number-one custodian unless he can find a suitable replacement.

However, now that Dubravac has denied any Celtic bid, that seems unnecessary.

Hoops fans will have to wait until the first summer signing is announced. With Rodgers looking to add quality, Livakovic would undoubtedly do so.

However, it appears unlikely that the Croatian international will be holding a Celtic scarf above his head anytime soon.
