Wolves and Everton Remain Keen On Signing Watford FC Star

Premier League clubs Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton remain interested in signing Watford midfielder Giorgi Chakvetadze, Football League World has learned.

Back in December, it was reported that Wolves, Everton, and Leicester City were monitoring the Georgian international ahead of the January transfer window. Now, sources confirm that the Molineux and Merseyside outfits are still keen on securing his services.

Wolves and Everton Still Monitoring Chakvetadze

Chakvetadze has been a key figure for Watford this season, contributing two goals and five assists in the Championship. His performances have played a crucial role in the Hornets’ pursuit of a play-off spot, and his displays have caught the attention of the Premier League duo, both of whom have sent scouts to assess him in recent matches.

In addition to his domestic performances, Chakvetadze also impressed in the EFL Cup, where he provided an assist during Watford’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester City in September, showcasing his ability against top-level opposition. However, both Wolves and Everton remain cautious about the financial aspect of any potential deal, given that the midfielder is under contract at Vicarage Road until 2029.

The Sun previously reported in October that Watford could demand up to £20 million for the 25-year-old, a fee that may prove a stumbling block for interested parties.

Chakvetadze was also a key player for Georgia during Euro 2024, featuring in four matches and helping his country reach the knockout stages against the odds. His international performances have only reinforced his reputation as a talented playmaker capable of stepping up to a higher level.

A Valuable Addition for Wolves or Everton

Chakvetadze’s seven goal contributions in 32 Championship appearances highlight his influence at Watford, making him an intriguing option for both Premier League sides.

Giorgi Chakvetadze – 2024/25 Championship Stats:

  • Appearances: 32
  • Starts: 31
  • Tackles won %: 83.9
  • Duels won %: 44.3
  • Pass accuracy %: 86.2
  • Chances created: 65
  • Assists: 5
  • Goals: 2

His ability to create opportunities and maintain strong passing accuracy suggests he is ready for a step up to the top flight. Wolves’ pursuit of the midfielder may depend on their ability to avoid relegation, while Everton appear more stable under the leadership of David Moyes.

A potential £20 million transfer fee—or possibly even higher—represents a significant investment for both clubs, but at 25, Chakvetadze remains a player with plenty of potential to develop further.
